Brit Noel Coward wrote those lyrics in 1932 and they aptly describe my Bonefishing trip today. The wind today was flat calm. The water took on a mirror like reflection, masking the sky’s horizon and the water’s edge. Matthew Clapp, our guy in the U.K., wanted to experience this Bonefishing he had heard about, but not experienced. And that’s where the Englishmen part of the song came to be.Normally you want to fish for bonefish early or late. But, Matthew’s only time to experience our fishery was the middle of the day. We fished the top of the outgoing tide when the bones move of into hip deep water and ‘mud.” After catching bonefish at will, a six foot lemon shark, and Matt needing to tend to other business, we retreated to the shade of Ambergris Cay and cajoled about our success on the flats of Ambergris Cay. Matt, welcome to the club!
Best Regards, Capt. Greg Rahe
