A welcome reception hosted by the Turks and Caicos Tourist Board was held in the Airport’s VIP Lounge. On hand to welcome the inaugural flight was Permanent Secretary to the Governor’s Office Dr. Kingsley Been; Chairman of the Tourist Board, Dr. High Fulford; Director (Ag) of Tourism Ralph Higgs; President of Air Turks & Caicos Lyndon Gardiner and President of TCHTA Karen Whitt.

Dr. Hugh Fulford in welcoming WestJet to the TCI noted that this arrangement would benefit the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Tourism Board and WestJet.  Dr. Fluor stated that he hoped that this business relationship would grow and mushroom into something all parties can be proud of.

He added: “We have realized the positive impact the Canadian market can have on the TCI and we look forward to the benefits now and in the near future.”

Acting Director of Tourism Ralph Higgs, in his brief remarks stated: “We are very pleased that WestJet has chosen the Turks and Caicos Islands.  Our friendly people, accommodations and beaches are second to none.”

“We are willing to work to ensure that the TCI benefits from this relationship with WestJet.  They can count on us as partners moving forward,” added Higgs.

WestJet’s Vice President of Guest Services, Dale Tinevez called today “a proud day for our company”. He said his company continues to seek out hot spots such as the Turks and Caicos Islands and gave the assurance that Canadians will embrace this destination. Moreover, he added: “We hope to offer year round service in due time”.

Also on hand to bring remarks was Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority John Smith who commented that: “WestJet comes on the brink of our expansion.  It is our hope that they will deliver the service we expect.  We will do everything in our power to encourage and facilitate a long term relationship.”
WestJet will fly between Toronto and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos three times per week from now until May 1, 2010.

The Turks and Caicos Islands welcomes a new airline service into Providenciales. Starting in November West Jet will offer a non-stop flights between Toronto and Providenciales. The twice weekly flight will begin at an attractive rate of $388.32 for a round trip ticket, and is evidence that there are still appealing incentives available for travelers. The introduction of this new flight is evidence that our competitive hotel and resort offerings make the Turks and Caicos Islands a viable destination in the face of an unfavourable global economy.

Fishing enthusiasts — as well as their families — will find a lot to appreciate at Turks & Caicos Sporting Club on Ambergris Cay, a 1,100-acre private island 43 miles from Providenciales. Amenities and services include an Environmental Learning Center with staff naturalists, a tiki bar and gourmet dining, over eight miles of beach and nearly 10 miles of hiking and biking trails. The island has world-class bonefishing, deep water and bluewater fishing, as well as kayaking, and a private airport with a 5,700-foot jetstrip. The 550 homesites here start at $650,000, and pre-designed cottages are also available.

The Turks & Caicos Weekly News (July 4-10, 2009; Vol. 23, No.28) in their most recent edition reports that Davia Chambers has signed with Ikon Model Management, “one of New York’s leading fashion modeling agencies”. Davia, who recently did a photo-shoot on Ambergris Cay for a five-page editorial in the “Times of the Islands” magazine will be starting her modeling career in about two weeks!
